Judy was born March 30, 1912 in Stanwood, WA, the second child of Steiner and Hjordis Fjarlie. She grew up on the family farm in the Stillaguamish Valley and graduated from Stanwood High School. She then lived in Mount Vernon and later moved to Seattle.
Judy married John B. Borseth in 1936 in Seattle, WA. This proved to be a long, happy, and fruitful union.
For several summers during the 1930s, '40s, and '50s, she and her children accompanied her husband to Cordova, Alaska where he was a superintendent of Parks Canning Company, often helping out in the cannery when there was a big fish run. In the 1960s Judy and John operated Everett Boathouse and Marina in Everett, WA, along with Agnes and Martin Hegeberg. In the 1970s they lived summers in Anchorage, AK where John worked for Whitney Fidalgo Seafoods. After John's death in 1993, Judy lived in Everett, WA and then moved back to Seattle, WA in 1998.
Judy is remembered for her devotion to family and home. She was an avid scrabble player and continued to play into her 90s. She was an excellent cook and gardener and she enjoyed her Norwegian heritage by attending the numerous lutefisk feeds in the Puget Sound area.
Judy is survived by her three children, Jeralyn Strom of Anacortes, WA, Judith Hullin of Seattle, WA, and Jay Borseth of Seattle, WA, as well as 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Her passing was preceded by her husband John, brother Steiner Fjarlie, sister Ragni Eldegard, and son Jan.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2007 at 1pm at the Sons of Norway Hall in Stanwood, WA.
Memorials in Judy's name may be made to the International Eye Foundation, 10801 Connecticut Avenue, Kensington, MD 20895, or the charity of your choice.
